Event Against Cutting Plans

Several hundred jobs in Gelsenkirchen are in danger: If the Federal Minister of Economics should enforce his plans for a radical cut of the state´s solar power subventions it would have dramatic consequences for the whole German solar sector. In line with a nationwide day of action, the German Solar Industry Association (BSW) demonstrated today against the intended measures. The Gelsenkirchen actors jointly participated in this action with an event at the abakus warehouse site. Up to today, Gelsenkirchen has already been offering about 1000 jobs in the renewables sector. Among them, there are numerous experts from the photovoltaics sector which has a special significance for the "solar city" Gelsenkirchen. This positive development is endangered right now: Rösler has already claimed in December last year to cut down the subvention for new photovoltaic plants to a fraction of the previous new installations. Correspondingly, there will be a subvention for only a total of 1 Gigawatt nominal power per year in future. This would add up to scarcely 90 percent less than in the previous years 2011 and 2010. A cut to such an extent would hit the German solar sector hard: Approximately 100,000 jobs are in danger, a market break would be inevitable.
